Introduction to Wind Energy -
Internet Business Ideas |
This section describes some products and service ideas that have either come from my imagination as long as 40 years ago or are
based on scientific research that hint at some new products. Some of the ideas listed have since become commercially available.
In addition to the ideas listed below, I also have some more detailed discussions. |
RADIO CONTROLLED BLIMP TAKES OVERHEAD PHOTOGRAPHS (1)
Using an electric powered, micro-miniature version of the Goodyear blimp, the imagined machine would float a few hundred feet above the ground for a bird's-eye view. It might be radio
controlled or perhaps linked to the ground through an optical fiber cable, which could also act as a tether. A non-conducting optical cable would be ideal if the system needed to work
around high voltage power lines. I envision a company equipped with such a aircraft could provide a wide variety of photographic services. Real estate agents, construction site
contractors, weather monitoring services, traffic reporters and TV stations might all be needing a better view from time to time. The machine could be equipped with both television and
film cameras. A miniature TV camera might be used to help in the observation process and in maneuvering the blimp for the best pictures when using a film camera. Special infrared cameras
could also be used for nighttime surveillance. Perhaps you could imagine more uses for a spy-in-the-sky service.

CUSTOM DVD PLAYER FOR VOICE AUDIO (2)
A DVD system could be modified to allow a single disk to store several weeks worth of voice audio information. By using digital audio compression techniques, restricting the frequency
response to the voice audio spectrum and playing only monophonic sound, a single DVD disk could store over 500 hours of audio. Such a system would be ideal for audio books. One disk
could store several full length audio books. It would be great for schools, commuters and truckers. |
MEAT ANALYZER USING MICROWAVES (3)
Have you ever noticed that some materials heat faster in a microwave oven then others? Perhaps the sausage in your frozen breakfast burns while the eggs are left cold. Such phenomenon
result because certain fat molecules absorb microwave radiation more readily than materials containing only water. Taking advantage of this effect I imagine a device that could determine
the fat to lean ratio in various meat products. Perhaps the device would sweep through a range of microwave frequencies and note the absorption levels at certain bands. Such a device
might be useful for grocery store officials to spot-check the quality of their packaged products. It could have many other uses. For example, government meat inspectors could also use
the gadget to guarantee the consumers get what they pay for. In our increasing health conscience demands for leaner meat products the system may also be used to determine the quality of
meat still on the hoof. With some modifications it may even be used to determine the state of our own body tissues. Weight watchers could determine how much of their body is fat and how
much is muscle. |
