Guide to Preparedness Now - Why Preparedness is Important!

Why be a prepper?

You know that even a slight chance of a weather event causes people to pick the grocery shelves clean.   You can imagine what it will be like during a catastrophe.   Becoming a prepper now will increase your chances of survival later.

The possible "things" that can turn your world upside can include personal crisis, natural disaster, political upheaval, economic collapse, etc.

Think of Prepping like buying insurance. Insurance against an emergency/disaster.  Insurance that you hope you will never need, but if you do, you a glad that you have it.

Why is Preparedness Important?

FEMA advises that at a minimum, all Americans should have a three-day emergency/disaster back-up plan, just in case.  Just in case of:

  • an emergency/disaster will strike

  • food prices will skyrocket

  • there will be a major global catastrophe

  • you can't rely on the government or on others

Your reason to adapt a preparedness attitude is a personal one.  Yes, some out there are doomsdayers.  They believe that world as we know it is coming to an end.  Other want to become self-sufficient, debt-fee & prepared for come what may.

A Prepper will typically have available:

  • 3-Month Supply: Build a small supply of foods that your family regularly eats. This food should be rotated often to ensure freshness.

  • Water: Store enough drinking water for your entire family for several days to be used if your water supply should become tainted or disrupted.

  • First Aid Kit:  Create several different kits for your home, your car and your 72-Hour Bug Out Bag.

  • Financial Reserve: Establish a financial reserve by saving a little money each week and gradually increasing it to a reasonable amount.

  • Longer-Term Supply: When possible, gradually build a supply of food with an extended shelf life, such as wheat, white rice, and beans.

Preppers are ready with an Evacuation and/or Survival Plan when:

  • Natural Disasters - if you live in a region that is prone to hurricanes, tornados or earthquakes, then prep. Torrential rains, heavy snow accumulations, fires can all be reasons that you and your family will have to leave quickly or hunker down.  Common sense, and preppers, will tell you that having a plan being will certainly make these "real life" situation easier to survival.  Survival is the name of the game.
  • Personal Crisis   given the state of the current economy job security is tenable for many people.  A well stock stash of food & supplies will help to keep you and your family fed & comfortable.
  • Pоwеr Outаgеѕ  роwеr оutаgеѕ happen due to storms, unexplained reasons, or human error.  Again, well stock stash of food & supplies will help to keep you and your family fed & comfortable.

Now that you know why to prepare, let's talk about what preparation looks like.
